Slogan, Emblem, and Mascots for the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025 Are Officially Unveiled

On January 11, 2024, the slogans "Dream of Winter, Love among Asia", the emblem "Breakthrough", and the mascots "Binbin" and "Nini" finally made their official debut at the launching ceremony of the slogan, emblem, and mascot for the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025. This also marks a new milestone in the preparations for this year's Asian Winter Games.

With a catchy and powerful slogan, this exciting sports event not only leaves a lasting impression on the broad public, but also spreads the values of hope and dreams, peace and friendship which sports want to convey in the hearts of people around the world.

On January 11, 2024, the theme slogan of the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025, "Dream of Winter, Love among Asia," was officially unveiled to the public, in order to connect Asian countries with "Ice and Snow", create a new growth pole of ice and snow economy, and promote people to people and cultural exchanges between Asian countries and countries along the "the Belt and Road". Closely linking the "Same Dream" and "One Heart" with "Chinese Dream", it will promote cooperation and common development among Asian countries with the Asian Winter Games as a bond.

The Dream of Winter aims to showcase the charm of ice and snow sports for athletes from various countries at the Asian Winter Games, and to build a broad stage for realizing their life dreams, which reflects mankind’s continuous self-transcendence and relentless pursuit of the Olympic spirit, and represents the fervent expectation of inspiring more people to actively engage in ice and snow sports.

Love among Asia demonstrates the common aspiration of people from all countries to enhance unity and friendship with sincerity and enthusiasm and to promote mutual learning and progress of civilizations through exchange and respect, and also expresses the beautiful vision of pursuing peaceful development and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

As the logo and most prominent symbol of a sports event, the emblem is not only a sign in the hearts of the people for a sports event, but also a window to showcase the characteristics of the host city and national cultural traditions, allowing people to easily see the time and location of a sports event at a glance.

On January 11, 2024, the emblem "Breakthrough" of the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025 was officially announced to the public. In the future, "Breakthrough" will serve as the main symbol. Design concept

The emblem of the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025, "Breakthrough," cleverly integrates short track speed skaters, lilacs that is the city flower of Harbin, and dancing ribbons for isomorphic design, combining Chinese culture with Olympic elements. It conveys China’s acceleration of sports power construction in the new era, unremittingly striving to challenge higher, faster, and stronger goals, and making new contributions to the beautiful pursuit of Asian ice and snow sports.

Design elements

The emblem consists of three parts: the main graphic, the written logo, and sun icon of the Olympic Council of Asia. The agile and graceful posture of short track speed skaters reflects the sportsmanship of Asian ice and snow athletes who strive hard and constantly surpass themselves. It is also a glorious proof of Harbin's "Olympic champion city". The blooming lilacs showcase Harbin's open and inclusive urban culture. The dancing ribbons add a festive visual sensation to the emblem, which is not only a tribute to the past, but also a longing for the future. The sun icon in the upper left corner is a symbolic symbol of the Olympic Council of Asia, representing the long-standing aspiration of Asian countries to pursue prosperity, progress, and peace together.

Design colors

With a gradient of blue and purple as the main colors, the emblem that realistically simulates the colorful light and shadow refracted by sunlight shining on ice, symbolizes the infinite charm of ice and snow sports. The gradient purple in the ribbon is derived from the main color of lilacs, Harbin’s city flower .

Cultural connotations

The overall line structure of the figure can be regarded as a variant of the Chinese character " (Nine) ", which directly means the 9th Asian Winter Games. Chinese culture, with the " (Nine)" as its top priority and full of a sense of future, expresses Harbin's highest respect for its neighbors and friends from various Asian countries. In addition, the external contour lines form the Chinese character "(Harmony)" in cursive script. In Chinese nation with profound and rich "Harmony" culture, it conveys the Chinese people's long-awaited wish to gather together with friends from various Asian countries, unite and cooperate, and progress together.

A mascot is essential as a carrier to showcase the concept of the competition and the culture of the host city. The mascots of the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025 are a pair of cute Northeast tigers. "Binbin" is a mascot representing ice sports, wearing winter sportswear, red scarves, blue gloves, which is wearing ice skates while happily skating. Nini on snowboards is a mascot representing snow sports, which wears a traditional Chinese fur collar festival red jacket with high joyousness.

Symbolism of mascots

The names, "Binbin" that comes from the city "Harbin" and "Nini" that comes from the pronunciation of Chinese character "Nin (You)", symbolize "Harbin welcomes you" and showcase Harbin's fervent expectations and sincere welcome to friends from various Asian countries. The overall image of "Binbin" and "Nini" that is strong, cute, enthusiastic, and festive symbolizes the strong body and resilient will of the Asian Winter Games athletes, as well as the enthusiasm and generosity of the people of Harbin to welcome guests.

Design concept

In traditional Chinese culture, the tiger, as a symbol of auspiciousness, is endowed with lots of positive qualities, among which "Integrity", "Strength", and "Courage" are highly compatible with the spirit of the Olympic Games. "Binbin" and "Nini" are designed and created based on two cute little Northeastern tigers born in September 2023 in the Northeast Tiger Forest Park of Heilongjiang Province, which cleverly blend the cute image of a tiger looking dignified and strong with Harbin's unique ice and snow culture in winter and folk customs. The facial features of the mascot draw on the traditional folk toy cloth tiger with northern characteristics;The ornament on ears and forehead draws on the visual language of Fangzheng paper cutting, a national intangible cultural heritage in Harbin;The iconic "King" tiger pattern on the top of the head and the decorative pattern on the colorful padded jacket adopts the shape of "Snowflakes"; The gloves are printed with a pattern of lilacs, the city flower of Harbin. The overall pattern that personifies the "Northeast Tiger" and integrates it with the Olympic spirit, highlights cultural confidence, stimulates cultural vitality, and helps tell Chinese stories and spread the Chinese voice with excellent culture.
